Voter information letters for the 2025 Markham Ward 7 By-Election are in the mail

MARKHAM, ON – September 16, 2025 – Voter information letters for the 2025 Markham Ward 7 By-Election are in the mail and are being delivered by Canada Post to everyone who is registered to vote. 

Each voter information letter includes: 

  • The list of voting place and hours; 
  • Examples of IDs that can be used to vote; and, 
  • Other important information about the by-election.  

Eligible voters who don’t receive a voter information letter by the start of regular voting days (September 26) may not be registered at their current address or at all. 

A person can vote in this by-election if they are: 

  • At least 18 years old by final voting day (September 29); 
  • A Canadian citizen; and, 
  • A resident, landowner or tenant of Markham’s Ward 7 (or the spouse of one). 

A voter information letter is not needed to vote in this by-election, but it helps make the voting process faster and easier. Eligible Ward 7 voters who don’t receive a voter information letter can still vote by going to a voting place and presenting acceptable ID showing their name and qualifying Ward 7 address. Checking, updating or adding their information ahead of time at ElectionsMarkham.ca/Register will make it easier when they go to vote. 

Even if a voter receives a voter information letter, they are still required to show ID when they go to vote. Here’s a list of IDs that can be used to vote. 

Voters are reminded to only open a voter information letter that’s addressed to them – it’s illegal to take, open or tamper with mail that’s addressed to another person. If a voter receives a voter information letter for someone who doesn’t live at their address anymore, don’t open or forward it. Instead, contact vote@markham.ca, or mark the envelope ‘Return to Sender’ and drop it in the mail.  

Voting for the 2025 Markham Ward 7 By-Election will take place between September 26 and 29, from 10 AM to 8 PM. Eligible voters can cast their ballot at any voting place in Ward 7 during days when the voting place is open.
